Epicare Review*

In between laundry and cleaning up my disaster of an apartment, I decided I would make my first post of 2014! I hope you all had a nice new year, as I mentioned in my last post, mine was spent with a lovely gross head cold... But luckily it's improving!
For my first post of 2014 I wanted to talk about this interesting product I was given to review by the super nice Celine of Nail Polish Canada (I talk about Nail Polish Canada further in this post). It is called Epicare, and it is a "Do it yourself manual threading device."

For those of you that don't know, Threading is a form of hair removal where thread is twisted, then rolled, over areas of unwanted hair growth. It is faster than tweezing because it actually removes more hair at once, saving time. Threading is also quite a bit complicated, and I'm sure quite hard to do on your own eyebrows. This device creates the same twisting, rolling motion, but makes it much easier to do.

It looks like a spring, with two pink handles for a strong grip. I was honestly a bit scared of it when I first opened the package! I was worried I would be rolling a painful Slinky on my face!
To use the Epicare threader, all you have to do is just bend it -Like in the picture above.- , then simply roll it over your face. The box says it "Removes unwanted hair from the roots safely and effectively without damaging the skin." So again, quite similar to the actual threading technique and results.
As you can see, the spring twists and rolls just like the threads do in Threading.

I actually received this product two weeks ago, but I am an avid tweezer, so I had to give my eyebrows time to grow out. The horror! I felt like Cousin Itt from the Addams Family!
Anyway, I have never had my eyebrows threaded before, so I was nervous to try Epicare! But it wasn't even bad! It is obviously not meant for shaping, unlike actual Threading, which when done professionally, can be quite precise. But it works great for in between, and above my brows. I don't have any noticeable facial hair, but I could see it working for that as well, since it is faster than tweezing every single hair. And I noticed a bit less redness than when I would wax my brows also. Though there was a slight bit of redness, but me being as pale as I am, a small breeze can turn my face red...

I would advise though, that if you're not a frequent tweezer, threader, or waxer, that you be very careful trying this product. If you don't have a pain tolerance for hair removal methods, this thing hurts! To me, it feels the same as tweezing, just maybe a bit more of a sting if there is more than a few hairs. But I made my brother be a guinea pig, and you would have thought I stabbed him! But like I said, he is not used to hair removal practices. And also, this is meant for small, fine, facial hair, not hairy man arms...
I cleaned up my mother's brows using it also, and she is a waxing fan, and even she agreed that it worked well, and the pain was around the level of tweezing. Though she prefers waxing her brows still.
Personally, I am not fond of waxing, so I didn't mind this product. I would use this to clean up larger spaces around my brows, then use my tweezers for any small hairs, and for shaping.

I was really surprised. I was worried this product was going to be like those scary infomercial hair removal products you see on TV at midnight, but I think it worked pretty well, and it didn't rip my eyebrows off, so bonus points!
