Fashion & Beauty Haul

This post is quite picture heavy, so I'm warning you now! I went into a shopping craze this December, and I have a bunch of things I went broke for to show you!

Beauty box & compact from Ulta - $25

First up is this giant makeup case and gorgeous compact I picked up from Ulta. I normally don't buy makeup kits, but if I bought it I could get the compact for only $10 - Normally $25.- . So I couldn't pass it up! The compact also comes with an engraving plate and coupon to get your initials engraved into it.
The makeup is actually really cute, and I have been swatching it like crazy. So much so, that I was inspired to turn it into a swatching series on my blog! I normally only swatch nail polish, so I thought it would be fun to branch out into makeup. So keep a look out for that series to start in a couple weeks.

Blouses from Dot's - Around $10 -15 each.
Time to move on to fashion! I'm terrible at remembering prices, but I'm trying. I bought these from work, where I buy most of my wardrobe nowadays. I can't help it, we get such cute things!
The cream blouse with the black piping is a no sleeve tank, so I wear it now with a cardigan, and I figure I can wear it in the summer by itself and still look chic and cute. I bought the blue blouse because I just couldn't get over the gorgeous color!

Accordion pleated skirt from Amazon - $25
I have been looking for an accordion maxi skirt forever, but could never find the right one. I found one I loved at Kohls, but they wanted over $40 for it! No thank you. So I went to the place that has everything, Amazon, and found this adorable one for only $25, plus free shipping. I love the color, the little belt, just everything about it. It looks so cute on, and currently I wear it with tights and a snug sweater, but in the summer I could easily pair it with a tee and sandals too.

Printed leggings and wedge booties from Dot's.
Printed leggings have really been growing on me, so I had to pick these up. I think they were around $10 or $12. And the boots were a splurge purchase, I tried them on and they were so comfortable! I paid around $20 I think.

Sweater, shorts, & turban headbands from Dot's.
Yes, I bought shorts in Winter! What's wrong with me?! But they are really high-waisted and flattering, and my co-worker totally talked me into them, so it wasn't technically my fault... :p Plus they look cute with tights or leggings... So there's that... They were like $13.
The sweater is a bit Gladiator with the gilded shoulders, but I love it. The green color is also really flattering on my ghostly pale skin. I don't remember how much it cost, sorry! Bad blogger!
I've seen the turban trend around for a while, but I couldn't really get into it. But when I saw these head bands I thought they were a cute baby step into this trend. I think they were $8 for the set. I have an awful memory apparently.

Sparkle sweater from Dot's
So sparkly! I love this sweater. It's a bit scratchy, but that's the price I'm willing to pay for so much sparkle! It's also quite slouchy, so it looks really cute with leggings. Obviously plain leggings, I don't need to look like a disco ball...

Big studded sweater from Dot's
Yes, yet another purchase from work! I think I shop there almost as much as I work there... Anyway! I bought this super comfy sweater with really interesting studded sleeves. It feels like I'm hugging a polar bear, just without the giant teeth and claws...

Sparkle earrings from Dot's - $4
Yay! I remembered a price! Anyway, I didn't buy any jewelry this month besides these earrings, which is so unlike me. But these are perfect for the holidays, and super sparkly! I also love big earrings, so I figure they will get a lot of use.

Covergirl Capital Collection Pyro Pink - $4

How could I have a haul on I Heart Nail Art without showing some polish! First up is this really cute purple holo-glitter polish from my local drugstore. It's from the Covergirl Capital Collection which is inspired by the Hunger Games Catching Fire. I really wanted all the polishes in the collection, but my drugstore was basically cleaned out, so I could only find this shade, and an unattractive mustard yellow holo-glitter. Though as I write this I found a shade called Rogue Red from the collection which is just gorgeous.

Sally Hansen Triple Shine Sparks Fly - $5

And lastly I picked up this Sally Hansen blue based polish with different sized silver glitter particles.
I went to this giant CVS one weekend, and the polish aisle was huge! It was like my heaven. How I walked out with only one polish is a mystery. I have already used it for a Winter themed design - Coming soon.- , and am really pleased with the coverage and formula.

Well that's it! Sorry if it was a bit long. I also bought gifts for my family, but my mom reads this blog, and I don't want her to know what I got her. I'll do a haul post after Christmas and share what I bought them, and maybe what I received as well. (Marc Jacobs Honey fragrance? Fingers crossed!)

Thanks for reading! (Swatches of the polishes shown are coming soon!) To read my last Haul post click here.

November Favorites

A list of my favorite products and things I bought in November 2013.

I have actually managed to write a Favorites post that isn't two months late! Yay!
Yes, it is time to share my favorite things I went broke buying during the month of November. I am fueling this journey with brick oven pizza, and an eggnog latte. Weird combination, but it works.
Let's get started!

Glasses - Really Expensive...
First up is an item that is a favorite not just because it's cute, but because it also helps me see! Which is a total bonus. (You can read more about my impaired vision here
They are really cute, and I have gotten a lot of compliments on them, but they were painfully expensive. I guess that's the price you pay to actually be able to, you know, see things.

Hello Kitty watch from Amazon - A gift.
Next is this super adorable watch my mother bought me for work. I can't carry my phone with me during my shift, which is totally fine, but there are no clocks except the tiny one on the register. So my mom fed my Hello Kitty addiction and helped me discover what time it was, all in one gift. Yes I know that's weird that I didn't own a watch before this, but it's 2013! My phone tells me everything!

Not Your Mother's Sea salt spray - $4-$5
I was really bored of my hair, which I always wear straight, so I decided to try wavy hair! My hair is already naturally a bit wavy, so I thought it would be a nice change of pace.
I was looking for a nice salt spray to help give my hair some nice, soft, beachy waves, when I found this brand. I had never heard of this company before, but the packaging was cute, and the low price didn't hurt either, so I figured I'd give it a shot. While it does contain dead sea salt and sea kelp, which doesn't sound too pleasant, it smells really good. It also leaves my hair feeling really soft, and does it's job of helping my hair stay nice and wavy.
I use it after I wash my hair, then I use my hair straightener -yes, I said Straightener :p-, to create soft curls. I finish it off by running my fingers through the curls to loosen them, then I spray a bit more to help hold the curl.
I learned how to curl my hair with my straightener online, and it is so much nicer than using a curling iron! I am thinking about making a tutorial on how to do it, so if you think that would be interesting let me know in the comments.

Dot's Fashions - $10
I've already talked a lot about this purse during my What's in My Bag Tag post (here). But I love it so much, so I had to include it in this month's favorites list.
I bought it at work for around $10. I love the red color, and silver accents. It goes with almost anything I wear. It also holds a surprising amount of stuff!

And lastly is this really pretty necklace that my mother also bought me. Thanks mom!
I don't know where she got it, most likely Amazon, because her and I are absolutely addicted to Amazon.
I love skeleton keys, and I also love vintage-looking bronze jewelry, so this has become a staple in my jewelry collection. I also like the cute watch face in it that actually keeps time really well. It's really unique looking, and I am just obsessed with it.

Thanks for reading! Sorry if this post was a bit short on favorite items. I had more, but I am saving them for a big haul post I have planned. There will also be some awesome new nail polish too, so stay tuned!

DIY Jewelry Stands

I am writing this post on my NEW laptop I bought today! I love it, it's so cute and tiny. And now I can write whenever I want without tying up my household computer. I also had a job interview today that went really well, so basically I'm having a good day!

Anyway, I wanted to post about a DIY (do it yourself) project I did recently. I have a lot of jewelry I've collected over the years. Nothing expensive, mostly interesting costume pieces. But I wanted a cool way to not only store them, but look attractive while doing it. Before this, my jewelry was crammed into a small tackle box thing, and it was hard to find anything.
I stumbled upon this project while watching videos on Youtube. It's by a youtuber called Brittani Louise Taylor. You can find the video here.
I take no credit or ownership for this project idea and design, I'm just showing my results.

Supplies:
1. Modge podge.
2. Hot glue.
3. Acrylic paint - left over from my art school days-. The original video uses spray paint, but I wanted to use up my paint because I have a ton of it.
4. Dishes and glasses.

Old dishes.
I decided to make two pink one tier stands -one for me, one for my mom-, one small blue stand, and a purple two tiered stand for earrings and bracelets. I also found some old apple shaped souffle dishes -they're from my "I want to be a chef" phase.- to paint and use as a display for my small rings and pendants.

After painting.
Here is a picture of some of the dishes drying. It took two coats on each side to cover. I let them dry for about half an hour between coats.

Pink one tier and one of the apple dishes.
I let everything dry overnight. then the next day I put a coat of modge podge on the bottom of the stands and on the plates. This created a barrier to prevent the paint from transferring onto the table or jewelry.

Small blue one tier.
After the modge podge was dry -it's dry when it turns clear-. I then carefully glued the plates to the glasses. It was tricky to make sure it was perfectly centered.

Purple two tier.
They came out pretty cool! After they're painted you can't really tell they were just plates and glasses. They look like little cake stands. I also liked that it cost me $0! I already had everything needed in my house. If you want to make them too, I linked the video in the beginning of this post.

Here is what they look like on my vanity.
These are great for my little pieces of jewelry. And that is a red velvet cake candle in the frame, it is the best candle on earth. It smells so good!
I love the blue stand for my statement rings.

The purple one is great for my earrings. My little earrings go on the plate, and I can hang my larger earrings on the edge. Then I used the bottom tier for my large bracelets.
I decided to use the pink one for some of my beauty products that were stacked on my vanity. It looks a lot nicer. And I have room underneath it for my container of makeup brushes.

It was such a fun project, and it is so much easier to see my jewelry when I get dressed every morning. I found pieces that I forgot I had! I'm so glad I stumbled upon Brittani Louise Taylor's video. I knew being unproductive would pay off one day!

Thanks for reading!
Feel free to comment if you liked this project.
