Disney Nail Art: Pocahontas

Hi everyone! Today I am super duper excited about my manicure, for two reasons. First, it's the third instalment of the Polish Party's monthly collaboration, with the theme of Disney. Secondly, this is my very first attempt at portrait nail art, which is something I've always been very scared of. I follow several amazing nail artists on Instagram who regularly post the most incredible, detailed portraits of characters. I've always envied their abilities to make a person look 'real' with the use of nail polish and a paint brush, and although I'm no where near their standards yet, I feel like my Pocahontas design is a few steps closer to their amazingness!

The equipment:

Barry M Limited Edition 'Yellow'
Barry M 'Shocking Pink'
Barry M 'Papaya'
Barry M 'Greenberry'
Barry M 'Grey'
Models Own 'Blueberry Muffin'
Models Own 'Feeling Blue'
Butter London 'Molly Coddled'
W7 'Purple'
Sinful Colors 'Black On Black'
Sinful Colors 'Snow Me White'
Seventeen 'Forever'
e.l.f. 'Mango Madness'
Models Own black nail art pen
Essie 'Good To Go'
Medium nail art paint brush
Fine nail art paint brush
Cotton buds
Acetone

Yep, this mani required A LOT of equipment. To start with, I applied my bases. I applied two coats of Barry M's bright yellow to my ring finger and thumb nails, and then used 'Blueberry Muffin' for my other nails. Once dry, I followed The Nailasaurus's Nimbus Nail Art Tutorial for my blue nails. After dipping a cotton bud in acetone, I used 'Feeling Blue' and 'Molly Coddled' to form a pretty, cloudy base. When I was happy with the result, I topped it off with 'Good To Go', as I wanted my nails to be totally dry before adding the rest of the details.

My yellow nails were the bases for the portraits. I've tried raccoon nail art before, so felt a bit more confident about painting Meeko. I used white, grey and black polish, and mixed them together to achieve a few different shades. I used a medium paint brush for the base colours, and a much finer one for all of the tiny details. Unfortunately, the brightness of the polish beneath seemed to tinge the design yellow, so I probably should have used a paler colour for these bases. Never mind!

Pocahontas was painted using 'Forever', 'Black On Black' and 'Snow Me White'. Again, I mixed the colours for different sections. I used 'Mango Madness' for her lips (that's also the colour of Meeko's mouth). I then added her necklace using 'Greenberry'. Finally, I added a combination of leaves, dots and dashes for the 'wind'. Everything was then topped off with 'Good To Go'. What do you think?

Make sure you check out the rest of the Polish Party girls' Disney manicures!

C is for Cinderella!

You may recall that about a week ago I posted my Beauty and the Beast nails on my blog. I got such a great response, it was incredible! Honestly all the nice comments made my day.
I decided to go along this Disney Princess theme and continue my ABC challenge as well.

Being that the next letter is C,

C is for Cinderella!

I found this design to be much more challenging than the Beauty and the Beast design. Honestly, faces aren't my strong point, I'm working on it though.

I used polishes for the base colors and everything else is done in acrylic paint.

My thumb, index and middle finger have Sinful Colors Rainstorm, my ring finger has OPI Fly and my pinky has Sinful Colors Song Of Summer.

You may have noticed (or not) that I have gone back to a white background on my pictures. Even though I've had my light box for a while now, I'm still testing things out. I think I may like the white background better than the black though.

I think that's about it for Cinderella and Prince Charming.

D is next on the ABC nail art challenge. I'll see what I can come up with.

B is for Beauty and the Beast!

I'm back with my next installment of the Alphabet Nail Challenge. This is a theme I added myself and am really excited about!

Without further ado,
B is for Beauty and the Beast!

I'm completely embarrassed to admit that these took me 4+ hours to complete. The base colors are nail polish and everything else is acrylic paint topped with matte top coat.

I think my favorite nails are the pinky and thumb.

The inspiration for my middle and ring finger came from this picture:

*I don't own the inspiration picture.

Sorry that was really picture heavy. But I really loved these. I kind of say that about every manicure. Oh well.

Thanks for reading!

Nail Art with Phineas & Ferb

Although just a year from being a legal adult, I still love to watch cartoons.

One of the shows I absolutely love is Phineas and Ferb!
It's simply adorable.

I've been wanting to do Phineas and Ferb nails for just about forever.

Finally I got around to painting them;

I really do love how these turned out. I opted for a simple gradient background which I think looks nice.

Ignore the paper cut on my pinky.

On the index finger I used Island Girl Molokai Dream. It's a gorgeous bubblegum pink. Usually I'm not a fan of pink, but this one is great.

Okay last picture I promise.

Oh you might have noticed that I have a curved watermark now. I know a lot of people want watermarks like this so I'm making a tutorial to show how you can make your own.

I think that's about it!

Thanks for reading!

The Little Mermaid

I have to say, I consider myself more of a "pattern painter" rather than a picture painter- if that makes any sense... That said, I do like to challenge myself to do cartoons/people/etc. This is one of those times.
I really love The Little Mermaid. and I really love these nails, especially Flounder.
Don't you hate when you love a mani and all of the pictures you took turn out bad? That's what happened with these.
p.s. ignore the spots on her shoulder in the picture above :( Why does acrylic paint do that?

I guess that's all I have to say. I hope you like these as much as I do!
Thank you for reading.

Day 23: Inspired By A Movie

So as you can see, I really couldn't decide on a specific movie to do today so I decided to do a variety of childhood favourites (Shrek is still one of my favourite films now, I'm such a child at heart). These nails took forever but they are so worth it, I'm really proud of these. I wanted to push myself and I'm glad I did.

All the details were done in acrylic paint on a base of Barry M - Matt White. I had to adapt Wall-E to fit on my super short nails but I hope you like it anyway!

I love animations, but my boyfriend hates them (whut?) and I can't wait to see Brave. Although I dont think any recents have lived up to the brilliance of monsters inc/shrek/finding nemo. Which (if any) is your favourite animation?
